Portrait Sketching.

Prep sketch Like stretching before you jog, gesture painting is a warm up exercise. Get the essence of the subject in 5 minutes or less. The technique preserves the animation of a quick study and often translates to a finished paintng. People enjoy watching a sketch session so much that, I started offering them at events like weddings and receptions. A step above caricatures, these are works of art. Members of the press have written articles on my "performance art" and sharing my work with the public is a reprieve from my sometimes lonely studio. Being a social person, this is one of the things I love best about being an artist. Producing the very personal work of portraiture is a gift. When celebrated animation artist/ author Nancy Beiman took a gesture drawing course from me, she applied it to her classes, teaching animation students to "see and render" movement.
